Who is 8i?

8i is a volumetric video technology company on a mission to enable people to experience human content and each other in the most realistic way through holograms. There is currently a lack of real human content in immersive computing, and we're solving that problem by providing the easiest way to create, distribute and experience human holograms that look real and feel as if they are in the same room.

Our proprietary technology transforms video from an array of cameras into a 3D hologram of a human that has true volume, and can be viewed from any angle, on any device in augmented, virtual or mixed reality. We provide developers and creators with tools to integrate these holograms and enable a broad range of immersive experiences and apps with real people.

How does it work?

A performance is captured with an array of cameras, looking inward. Today this takes place at 8i’s studio, but our vision is to make capture accessible to anyone, anywhere. The data is processed and converted into a single volumetric video asset called an HVR.

How do you use

Using our proprietary compression algorithm, the HVR can be distributed to any device or platform, and play back at the highest and most efficient quality for that device.

How do I add it to my project?

Our SDK and plugins enable developers to easily integrate volumetric video into their AR and VR apps to engage their audience in the most immersive way. Holograms can also be delivered to audiences through a branded campaign on our mobile AR app, Holo.
